About Amme

25 years teaching Rocket. 10 years learning it from Larry.

I teach Rocket the way I learned it. Raja Rocket Yoga continues the legacy left by my teacher, Larry Schultz: making advanced yoga poses accessible to beginners, and yoga philosophy understandable and relatable to the modern world, while staying connected to the ancient eight-fold path of Patanjali, also known as Raja Yoga.

There are no teachers. We are all students. We are all beginning again, in every moment.

I am me

During my first TT in 2001, we were asked, "Who are you?" I burst into tears and ran out of the room! Days later, I looked down at my name written on my mat... AMME. Am Me. I am me. Not something that can be described or defined with words. In your yoga practice we get down to the essence of who you REALLY are.

I had the pleasure of having Larry Schultz as my main teacher for 10 years (1999 to 2009). The 200 hr foundation course in January 2001 was followed by one of the first ever rocket trainings in 2002. Larry checked up on me in London 2010 to make sure I "still teaching the rocket". I was. And I still am.

Why yoga?

I love the way that yoga can be anything and everything: meditation, exercise, ritual, a damn good time, and a place to cry. Yoga is a TOTAL YOU practice. We move ALL of you deliberately, not just arms and legs, but eyes, tongue, breath and more, cultivating a clear mind and strong body.

Rocket yoga has been my rock for 25 years, from dance floors to diapers and now teens in a village outside London. Yoga isn't something you're trying to become "good" at, it's something to enjoy.

I am here to help you cultivate a consistent practice, where you can witness first hand that "you're stronger than you think you are." (Larry Schultz)

All my love, Amme

What is Rocket Yoga?

Rocket Yoga is based on Ashtanga Yoga, a specific sequence of postures linked together with breath. There is way more to it!

When I first learned the Rocket from my teacher Larry, we only used the Rocket to refer to the practice we now call Rocket 2. These days, when I say I teach the rocket, I am referring to the philosophy.

In rocket yoga, beginners are encouraged to work on the advanced poses; we streamline, modify and play. The heart of the rocket are the teachings of Pattabhi Jois, and the Yoga Sutra. It is a playful meditation, a scientific sequence of movement and breath.
